The idea that bisexuals are lying to get attention or be trendy really gets my dander up. As if bisexuality is the only orientation affected by our culture. I’m sure there are advantages to identifying as bi when you’re not. But there are also advantages to identifying as gay when you’re not (gay people won’t be hostile towards you for being bi). And of course there are a shit ton of advantages to identifying as straight when you’re not.
Everyone’s identity is affected by the environment in which they live. When I fell for guys, it was never in a vacuum. Liking them was easy to talk about. If we dated I would feel normal and accepted. The relationship models I saw were overwhelmingly heterosexual. These little cultural influences could be just as important, if not more, than the actual person in question.
When you imply that bisexuality only exists as a trendy identity, you are harming bisexuals. You are pressuring them to identify as straight. And I’m really happy for your bigotry, and I’mma let you finish, but heterosexuality is the trendiest orientation of all time. OF ALL TIME.
THIS is the reason I’m actually incredibly wary of identifying as bisexual. It’s super fun and trendy to have everyone tell you your sexuality is all about getting attention!
I recently created a fashion blog! Let’s be buddies! :D? :D?
